Having finally accepted that only having one gear sometimes isnt enough I am in the market for a new roadie to supplement my Pearson Touche.

I am basically stuck trying to decide whether the extra £450 is worth it for the Ultegra Cayo model over the 105 and hoped you lot could give me some advice.

The bike will be used for cycle commuting (Although I will probably still use the SS for this as the roads in London are awful) but mainly for long weekend blasts, occassional forays into racing/TT/triathlons and a very fast (4/5 day) LEJOG attempt later this summer. I would also want to take it to the alps etc and will be riding whatever I get in various sportives next year so dont want to be in the position where I buy the cheaper one but then want to upgrade after a couple of months.

I suppose my main motivation for the ultegra model is the better wheel set as I doubt I would notice much difference between the ultegra/105 components but I am happy to be advised otherwise.

Thanks in advance

Common opinion would be that 105 would be more than aequate for your needs - could you ask wiggle (or anyone else) if they could do a 105 model with an upgraded wheelset ?
  • i went from sora to a new bike with 105 and its more than enough. lovely smooth crisp shifting. It was setup at a bike shop and performs smoother than my buddys ultegra, as he bought it online and it wasnt indexed properly. Im sure once his is tuned up it would be lovely, but 105 properly set up is great.
In my opinion id plump for 105 and get it dialled in at the lbs, happy days, £400 saved.

I'd go for the 105 equipped bike, and spend the £450 quid on a decent saddle and some better wheels (not that there's anything really wrong with the RS10s)

    Thanks all for the advice.

The 105 model looks like a great deal and I think I will go with it.
