I now rather like Evans Cycles, although more as a retailer than a useful LBS
So this morning I received a sleeveless top that was on sale for £9.99, amongst another top and a pair of shorts - and it was pretty soiled, a couple of highlighter-pen marks and general grubby dirt on it.
So I whizzed off an email asking for a retrospective discount (it was on sale, but nothing mentioned about shop seconds or anything). The reply said for refund or exchange I'd have to send it back, but if I wanted to keep it they could offer vouchers or accessories.
I asked what they could discount me off this: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/min ... d-ec005460
And I get this reply:
So for a slightly dirty shirt (which I'm only going to get bike crud and oil on anyway), I just got £17's-worth of handy mini work-stand goodness - I don't even have to send it back!

I've arranged to send this stand as a goodwill gesture, you should receive it over the next couple of days. Apologies for the inconvenience caused with the product you received.
If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to contact us
Kind Regards

Somebody (Dan I guess) is thinking at Evans then..............
You'll be shopping there again I guess ![1]Ribble winter special

I've had a similar good experience with Evans (although I think you negotiated better than I did!).
In a similar vein, I have also found Ribble to be excellent.David

That's not a score. That's a result. Shows the benefit of asking though. Always worth the ask, or the aks if you're a cockerny fellow.0

Fair play to Dan.
When you think how much a company like Evans must spend on marketing, I hope that they realise what a bargain they got by giving you that stand.
From this thread alone, I'm sure that Dan's gesture will pay for itself in no time. I hope Evans appreciate Dan's efforts and recognise him as a valuable member of staff.
BTW, I was interested to see how cheap the stand was but the description doesn't say much about it. Does it hold 2 bikes? It's an absolute bargain if it does. I'd been thinking about getting one of those floor to ceiling jobbies but I'm paranoid about it either damaging the ceiling/carpet or falling over in the middle of the night.0 -
It is a stand that holds the rear triangle by the LH dropout. One hook goes under the seatstay, the other under th chainstay.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Very useful to have, much easier than the full workstand when a full workstand isn't required for light jobs like lubing the chain.'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....0

Having seen the condition of the top tonight, Sara got a good deal from Evans though a cycle in the washing machine will rid the top of the dirt.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Wiggle were good for me recently, I had a pair of the DHB glasses sneap near the arms and I sent them an email to ask if there was any warranty on them, I got an email back the next day do say there was a new set in the post, sweet!
I love the reccession(sp?) it's doing wonders for customer serviceSaracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

So, you're basically applauding Evans for bad service in despatching poor quality goods?
