Enduro '08 or '09, which is better?

I have started shopping, Specialised Enduro is on my shortlist, was asking about the Enduro in my LBS and why the fork change. They said because of price point issues and earlier unrealiability on the E150 front fork, BUT he said he thought the E150 was a better fork than the Fox's on the '09 bike (they have put the E150 on the S-Works?), is he right? If so, is the '08 bike actually better, also considering I can find a pro carbon for £1800, it seems a very good deal.

Cheers

  • I think they've put the fox's on there to maintain the same price point despite component cost increases. I don't know if the E150 is a better fork but obviously you're moving from dual-crown to single crown and at the very least giving up a bit of stiffness which may or may not matter depending on what you do with it.

In terms of the rest of the bike, I wouldn't be overly fussed if it is 08 kit as opposed to 09 and if you can get what seems to be a £600 saving on the 08, I'd go with that.

    £1800 is a £900 saving.
I've tested an 09 Enduro SL and I own an 08 Pro Carbon and I do prefer the performance and looks of the E150 fork on the 2008 bike. I've not had any unreliability issues with it after a full year of running.

Yeah, it's a great deal, that kinda seals it, I want to be able to use it on a downhil track but still pedal back up, I have a hardtail I for single track stuff, was thinking of the Trek Fuel Ex8 or Lapiere Zesty, but not sure if they're quite 'man enough' for a weekly thrash down the DH track???

    Cheers

Could always sell the fork on- it is new after all and get a Lyrik or big Fox to replace it with, thats what I did on my Reign.... :)

i have an o8 enduro and love it but i have replaced the suspension as i didnt trust it. it worked flawlessly most of the time but the fork failed on me whilst it was just sat in my kitchen, no one anywhere near it!!

i left the bike for about 9 weeks whilst i was away with work and when i came back the rear shck was making all sorts of funny noises so i replaced it before it turned into a real problem.

when the units were working, they were outstanding, all of the adjustments made noticeable differences to the performance and the bike pedalled and descended superbly. but i found i couldnt trust the bike and was worried that it would fail whilst i was out on the trails.

the kit i have replaced it with is just as well performing but it is far more reliabl nd that makes me love the bike more.

i would say the 09 is a better option as the fox suspension will be more reliable but i dont know what specialized are up to, they should put a lyrik on there and be done with it.
