Hi all,

I recently started wearing an Altura fluoro waterproof jacket which seems to get me spotted earlier & feels safer but is getting too hot now the weather has warmed up. Can anyone recommend a budget hi viz jersey for the summer?

cheers

Not the cheapest, but worth it.

I got the girly version of this: http://www.cycle-clothing.co.uk/Product ... conds.aspx

It looks green but it's bright hiviz yellow (shame, as I fancied green)! Oh, and I haven't yet worked out what made it slight seconds :)

I've got 3 SPEG jerseys (including a Neoni) and think that they are great jerseys - and even better when you factor value for money into the equation.

Not so keen on their shorts, however - the pad is positioned very agressively; it's too far forwards even when I'm on my road bike unless I'm in the drops.

I've had my eye on that one - how does the Adidas sizing come up?

All my jerseys are XL, this is a far better fit than the polyester/lycra mix jerseys which I often find too tight.

Addidas actually seem to give an acurate sizing.

Since I still buy stuff from Wiggle and have it delivered to Australia this might be relevant.

I have several yellow and plain red jerseys from here:
    http://www.cyclingsports.com.au/Detail.htm?sku=U03C_248

Works out at about 15 pounds each. Their long sleeve winter jerseys are pretty good too, 25 quid each.

These guys have weekly specials, I just bought one of these for 20 dollars (10 pounds). Often seems to be difficult to get high viz, plain, reasonably priced gear so at these prices might be worth the shipping charge?

I'd feel really self-conscious wearing one of those slick yellow jerseys - isn't it like saying "I'm the fastest around!"? Wouldn't be able to back it up.. :?

It's more a case of 'being seen all around' , there's loads more wearing hi-vis gear, on all types of bike at all ages and levels.

I wear a high-viz builder's vest - no-one would mistake me for a Lance Armstrong wannabee - but wearing that Adidas jersey would be different kettle of fish :)

I've stopped wearing my hivis vest all the time - I just get too hot, another layer kills me up hills (or just at the top when I'm panting like a dog)!

So I made sure my new jerseys were light/bright - the hivis goes back on when it's dark though, of course, esp if I'm weaving a little due to a few pints (cycle lanes on pavements are useful at this point)!

I now have an orange long sleeve jersey, hiviz yellow short sleeve jersey, and orange/yellow no-sleeve jersey. I like those colours :D

Bought just the one baby-blue sleeveless jobby too, but might just have that as a backup :)

Only if you're riding the TDF.

I hope that my bright yellow, or garish team jerseys say "please don't run me over" -

although I think some cyclists may think "cheap-skate bling" - i don't care - a Walter Mitty moment desn't hurt amyone

I ordered a couple of the speg hi vis jerseys which arrived next day. They seem really good value. I did feel like I looked a bit of a tit coming into work this morning, but who am I trying to impress anyway? I'd rather get to work in one piece!

I am a bit overweight :) & also do a some weight training (kettlebells), so the fit around the gut is a bit revealing and on the upper arms is a bit tight. I guess most cyclists have huge legs & skinny upper body. Perhaps this will be my incentive to lose some more weight :)

I've got a couple of these which I wear (one at a time!) on top of a base layer:

I think they will get a bit hot in the summer though, not sure they're suitable to wear next to the skin.

    I like this one: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=23087

It's not form-fitting -- more like a t-shirt, and quite thin and airy. Can wear it over a base layer on chilly mornings, and on its own when it gets warmer.

Check out your local Decathlon - cheap 'blue product' summer cycling tops for £8.

Lightweight - so summer, only one large pocket - but suppose for commuting you won't use any. Lots of bright colours. I grabbed a red one to match the new commuter that's on order. 8)

I've ordered 3 or 4 short sleeve jerseys recently and all of them seem to be a little short at the front, that's why I've bought some bib shorts also.

Strange that  , doesn't happen with normal S/S t-shirts.

Yep, XL for me too, the problem is with all the brands I've bought with this type of 'performance' shirt.

Well, I know now, at least it's made me discover the wonders of the bib short.

I'm tempted to try XXL , even though I'm 6ft , 84kg , how 'real' cyclists manage to find gear that fits is a mystery.
