How often is an ambulance called out to Glentress? Saw this guy stretchered off after a jump the other day, and am wondering if this is a regular occurance.

If anyone knows of this guy, hope hes alright!

Was that on sunday about 2-3pm? We turned up a few seconds after a young guy had a bad fall and required an ambulance. I'd also like to know if he was ok. Seemed pretty serious, was unconsious for quite a while.

Yeah, was sunday afternoon about 3pm, at the top of the Falla Brea (?) [last run down to the carpark], was on the first jump just off the forest track.

We arrived just before the ambulance did, it was there for around 35 minutes I think.

Aye, thats the same one, we turned up just after it happened. We tried to help find someone with a phone and luckily a couple of guys turned up who seemed to know what to do. We left after we knew help was on the way. I'm no good in these situations, its not a nice experience.

thankfully I've also encountered few similar situations.

Any idea how often an ambulance is called to Glentress?

Oh, was it the really tall jump on the blue? Not a nice place to fall... I've never seen anyone take a trip in the ambulance there as yet, but it must happen pretty often. The ERI has an ongoing survey for injuries at glentress, apparently they get loads of walk-ins there with people who've binned it, gone home then realised that they've actually hurt themselves later on.

When we were on our honeymoon at Glentress last year, I think we saw three ambulances over the week. One was leaving as we were arriving, another was arriving as we were leaving. The best one was when my husband was convincing me that the freeride course was perfectly safe, just as the ambulance pulled up. Some chap had come a cropper on the wall ride, he was stretchered out with a leg-brace-thing....

I saw the ambulance as well on Sunday. Hope the guy wasn't too badly hurt.

I think I've only ever seen an ambulance one other time at Glentress.

I had a chat with one of the Tweed Valley Bike Patrol guys one day and he said that minor injuries that require people needing helped off the trail are pretty common, especially aorund Spooky Wood and Ewok Village but incidents needing an ambulance aren't that common.

  • they get called once or twice a week , well to either Inners or GT but Borders General get alot of a+e walk ins, enough for the nursing staff to bitch about GT, Inners and "stupid" MTBers to other staff.

still not in the league of whistler, the nurses at the local hospital there can tell from your injury which part of which trail you mangled yourself on, which is pretty mad!!

He is alright. He had a head injury where he had to stay at hospital for 2 nights. He was pretty annoyed with the jump. Good sign of recovery! Many thanks to his helmet which has saved his life!

I must thanks to the guys who knew how to deal with it and helped me out. I must say it was a very stressful Sunday but it wouldn't put me off riding tho.

I just hope the emergency services continue to support the trails centres and don't try and get them shut down. level of call outs to Lee Quarry in Rossendale has gone up considerably as the new trails there have become more popular.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
