The main thing when trying on shoes is to go near the end of the day when your feet are at their largest (they swell through the day). You want room to move your toes so they don't get numb. a snug fit and when you stand on your toes the heel should not slip. Can't recomment a bike shop I'm afraid as I don't know the area.

I've never been to the shop but Geoffrey Butler seems to have a good selection on their website.

Wiggle DHB 1s get a good review, bought a pair in the sale, not worn them yet though, waiting for my new bike ! Current shoes are Specialised Body Geometries that I bought in a sale & have been awesome for several years, now sadly wearing out.
    My knees hurt !

DHB's are a Wiggle own brand therefore you will not get them anywhere else new. So you will have to buy online which doesn't really meet what you have asked for.

Got the Spesh BG Road Pro shoes which I got half price as they were the 08 model. Great shoes.
  • thanks for your help and ideas. i will go to a shop for my first pair rather than online. that way i know the fit. thanks for the tips.

Wise choice. Certainly where I bought my first pair of shoes and was a good choice for me. Once you get used to brand sizes then online is a great place for a bargain.

Geoffrey Butler in Croydon, probably have the best range in South London. I'd look to try on models from the main brands, as fit and comfort can vary.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
