Does anyone know what size allen key I need to remove Look Keo pedals as my set doesn't have one big enough. Also, can you buy one specifically to remove pedals as from what I recall you actually need quite a bit of leverage to remove them.

    Most use 8mm.

I've found that the best way to remove the right hand side pedal is to get the right hand side crank pointing down at an angle of about 45°. Then standing on the OTHER side of the bike, inset your 8mm allen key horizontally with the a long handle part parrallel to the ground, pointing towards the rear of the bike.

Then simply step down on the allen key handle with your toes.

If you don't do it this way, you risk opening up your knuckles on the chainrings. You've been warned!
  • Better to buy an Allen key with a long handle, that makes it easier to remove the pedal. I got a Park Tools HR8C 8mm Hex Wrench from Wiggle but there are others out there. Remember to loosen in the right direction, one side will be clockwise while the other is clockwise. If they won't come off then you can place the allen key in a vice and use the bike as a lever.

I have learnt my lesson and now use some grease when fitting the pedals and remove them from time to time to stop them seizing up, saves a lot of pain.
