Just signed up to the 62 mile ride today, not sure whether I'm fit enough but I'll put in a few weeks training and see what happens, longest ride up to now is 32 miles.

Anyone else doing it?

The 100 miler? Should be a good day, just hope I'm not the only one on a hybrid! I expect to finish in about 5 hours. My brother is also doing it but he's planning on using his Tri bike so he's hoping for a quicker time

pray the weather was like today and I may not make it out of the first pub we pass.

otherwise, I'm going to go as good as I can and finish sub 3 hrs. Hopefully. With a decent tail wind. And a few prayers.

I wasn't planning on stopping anywhere but I read that you get a food voucher for a pub somewhere, and I'm not about to pass up a free meal lol

    Waaaaallsend mate.

The Mrs' folks are from West Monkseaton so I'm normally around the Bay (well, The Avalon on a summer's eve).

definitely no food vouchers, scran provided at timing stations though

on the 62 miler most people will be on hybrids or mountain bikes

not sure that tri bars are allowed - Peter will confirm if you post in the Sportive thread

and dg74, wot you doing in the Avalon ? You must be either a hippy or just like ogling the birds in fancy dress. Or both. Whats wrong with the Powder Monkey like ?
  • 100 miles. I've got a date with the Ryals. Wasn't expecting it last year. I left Wark thinking the worst was over. Within minutes my legs were like jelly again.

    But not this year.
If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers.

I'll have you know The Avalon is a great place to watch the birds go by and have a nice pint aswell. The Powder Monkey is ok, but I really prefer Oddfellows in Shields or The Tyne under Byker Bridge. Oh and I've just started liking "As you like it" in Jesmond.

Christ, I spend far too much time drinking...

 Jesus, remind me not to try keeping up with you, 5hrs for the 100?? You'll be flying man if you can do it in that time

636sean and myself have been out scouting about on the Cyclone route. So far we've done from the Dyke Neuk to Elsdon and what a fantastic route, especially that tasty little climb past Billsmoor Park  , I only hope there's not a strong westerly. Last week we came back past the Ryals, just to remind ourselves of the sweet little incline that awaits us after far too many miles. Next, we intend (well, I'm trying to convince Sean) that we should head out west from Elsdon, see what little bumps are in store for us. I've cycled out of Bellingham before, that was nice, there was a hill if my memory serves me right, well, not what I'd call a hill but someone must.

Quirky, the 62 mile route is through some fantastic scenery, the views out past Forestburn Gate are tremendous, well worth the pain (sorry, £20 entry fee  ). I only hoped the 100 mile route be just as scenic, and to be honest, as long as the route out of Otterburn is then I think my money is on the 100 miler. The road from Snitter down into Alwinton is just gorgeous  8) 8) 8)
Oh, and no food token, are you thinking about the Kielder MTB series??

dg74, you can only do the 31 miler if you promise to do the 62 next year?

Of course, you could do the 32 and think that it was a piece of the preverbial, and you'd actually quite fancy doing the ton

That's very true, and of course it will be considered.

First of all tho, I've got to ride more right now. Look forward to sat morning as I'll get a 25 miler in before heading to the Lakes for the weekend. Roll on.

And I'll be in touch with you soon for a ride out as I'm not back to work till next thurs.

I'm signed up for the 100. Now all this talk of the hills and jelly legs has got me thinking :wink:

Oh well, still a few training weeks to go and if the weather is like it is today it will be fantastic.

This is my first 'event' and I'm really looking forward to it.

    Cheers

Last years Cyclone was my first event. I did the hundred as I live in the land of rolling hills and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. You'll have a blast.

    Good luck.
