Can anyone recommend some nice comfy grips that are also thicker than the average grips for people with bigger hands? I'm on the bike more this year than I have been before and I'm starting to get aching hands, I think it's because the grips are too thin.

  • I have been using specialized body geometry grips odd shape but spread the load more evenly. All my mates have found them more comfortable and a few have started switching to them.

There only about £ 8.99 although I think that ergon do something similar with a bar end for about £28 1 friend has these but only because the shop only had them, did'nt notice any real difference between mine and the more expensive pair.

Hi Cheshley, I had the same problem, Ive got pretty big engineers hands too and used to get a bit of pain in the heal of my thumb and a little in the wrists. I bought some Ergon GP1 grips from Merlin Cycles Click here! and I,ve found them brilliant. Nice big platform to rest your palm on, and chuncky enough to get a proper grip. Well worth the money!

I found that Oury grips are pretty chunky.

Some lock-on grips use an internal sleeve to err..lock on to the bars and so the rubber is thinner than normal. The thick Sunlines are pretty good as are Funn Combats and Charge Sponges but for ultimate comfort I'd choose some push-on grips and risk a visit from the MTB fashion police.

I had a problem with achy hands on long rides and realised it was because the break levers were at the wrong angle. I put them more in line with the line of my arms and voila!
