Well, got my new bike yesterday, an Intense 6.6. Was really impressed with it, untill....

I went to pump the rear shock up, and IT LEAKS :cry::cry:

Bloody air-cans. I sent an email to Manitou, but I reckon it's gonna have to be sent away, so I can't ride my shiny new bike yet

And just 'cause it's new, I REALLY want to go out on it. AHHH, the frustration!

Brand new? Sent away my arse - take the bike back and ask for the shock to be replaced.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
  • aye he's got a point. Why does it need to be sent away?!

I dunno, I just assumed (yep, the whole ass thing... lol) that it would need to be sent away for repair / replacement. The shop is around a 2hr drive, so it's not a brilliant prospect to have to drive over, to swap for a new shock.

Still, thanks for the advice, I'm gonna ring the buggers tomorow now, and ask what they are gonna do about it.

Worst thing is, by law they have to give it a 'pre-ride check' or something, and the guy who checked it was a pretty long time bike-mechanic. It's shocking (no pun intended) that he missed it. It's a pretty obvious fault....

Hmmm, thanks guys. Apprieciate the advice. Maybe I should grow a set and tell them (albeit nicely-ish) that I want a new shock, or it's equivelent. As much as I'd like to make their ears bleed, I doubt highly they did it to sabotage my bike, and it's easier if they don't think I'm a total prick :D

I agree the situation needs to be handled properly, but fair is fair. You didn't pay good money for faulty equipment!

It's leaking from the valve stem just out of the air chamber itself. It's not the valve core, it's in tight, and besides, where the valve stem joins the air canister, if you move your finger over it, the air coming out changes pitch.

    Bugger...

The whole bike?? It's never been used, brand new. I've gone over it, and everything feels tight, and as it should be. The bearing don't have any 'rough spots', nothing is bent or even scratched.

Everything else is fine, just the damn shock...

  • you shouldnt be paying all your hard earned for your bike to be faulty and you have to sit with your thumb up your chorus while its fixed, it should be a completely new piece of kit or bike, dont accept a repair

It would be nice to demand a new bike, but it was a 'custom build', and whoever ordered it, didn't want it, so they had to try and shift it. All I want is a shock that works!!

Hmm funny you are talking about leaking shocks, I noticed there is a tiny amount of oil that come out of my positive and negative air chambers when pumping them up (RS team 2009).

Is this a major issue, should I go to Merlin to take a look at?
  • HARTAIL!! naa only jokin mate i hate it when stuff happens like tht you pay x amount of money for a bike you expect it to work and by the sound of it it wasnt exactly an apollo was is! also the companies take for ever to get it back to you which makes it that little bit more annoying.
