I am aware that turbo trainers have a resistance setting on them, but i was wondering do rollers have any form of resistance on them or do you just spin your legs really fast? and also do rollers wear your tyres out like turbo trainers?
cheers Jamie

Generally no - but there a couple of rollers with resistance units - Elite or Kreitler come to mind.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • surely i would just be spiinning my legs really fast, which means i wouldnt be able to do hard training sessions.

Rollers are intended to help you develop a smooth pedalling action by doing spinning drills - because you are having to balance it requires a far higher degree of control and balance in comparison to a rear-wheel trainer.

Tacx Rolletrack, Ecotrack, Sporttrack may be equipped with additional part named Speedmatic, 10 positions of resistance regulation.

Using different gears on the bike can be used to give different resistance. Not much good if you're on a singlespeed of course, or if you're already in the highest gear though. Works OK for me on my (cheap) turbo.
