Mavic avenir shoes.... help!

I have just purchased my first pair of road shoes, Mavic's Avenir shoe.

I have noticed when about to fit the cleats that there is a plate with 4 holes in between the inner sole and outer sole. What is this for? When i have fitted the cleats the plate just rattles around

    Think i have worked it out, the plate is for fitting other type of cleats. I have manged to remove them by taking out the insole and sliding them out :D

    Sounds likely, Speedplay use a four-bolt pattern.
