sram rear mech

ive just aquired a boardman team carbon which is great except that the rear mech is not adjusted correctley when the chain is in the middle of the cassette it is trying to climb up to the next gear so the chain is jumping and slipping i have tried adjusting the cable but to no avail any ideas ?[/b]
