    tread reduces traction, and slows the tires down all else being equal, maybe try the fatboys? the marthon tires are tough and can cope with park paths type off road as well, but rather depends as ever what one values.

    I have looked at the Fat Boys and they look okay.

    Has anyone got these tyres?

    The roads I ride on are tarmac, but not the smoothest of roads. Will these tyres be okay with occasional rough surfaces?

    thiner higher pressure tires will give a more jarring ride but the tires will be fine, i've not used fat boys but they seem to have a good reputaion.

    I assume as I am 16 stone I would be best not to pressure these up to their full limit?

    no you'll be fine, while it's true that a lot of racers are very light, most club riders on 23mm or less are your average ie a fair few over your weight.

    ie don't worry.
