Helmet allergy

It would seem that I am allergic to the chin-strap / lock of my helmet, resulting in a nasty rash. Anyone know of a XC lid with a hypoallergenic strap, or is this too much to hope for

Are you sure its an allergic reaction and not just a result of the rubbing from the straps?0

Most likely sweat rash. I used to get the self-same complaint from the sweat pads. Try loosening the strap a bit so you can get a draught throuhg, keep the affected area clean and slap some Aloe gel on it (from Holland & Barrett).0 -
This is so strange that this has happened to you as im suffering from the same thing with my new helmet..Never had this happend with my old specialized helmet.
What brand helmet you using?0 -
Its a mid range Bell. Going to buy a new lid but was wondering if anyone knew of one with good straps which might alleviate the problem.Tall n skinny0

Can't help you on that.
But have you given the strapping / chin piece a bloody good repeated washing and sterilizing? Put some of that aloe gel on the strapping / chin piece?
Gotta be cheaper than forking out for a new lid.0 -
I once had an itch coming from my helmet but a trip down the clinic and some cream from the doctors sorted it out

There you go. Mine was a Bell Apex. Swapped to a Giro and never had a problem since.
My doctor said that what I had was infected sweat rash, probably made worse by the very cold winds at the time.0 -
Giro lid it is then. Cheers.Tall n skinny0
