Looking to get into racing

Hey. I've been riding recreationally about 4 times a week and have built up a fairly decent fitness base. I'm looking to try out a race but find the BC Website really confusing. Can anyone recommend a race near the Yorkshrie area that would be good for a beginner. Also, what category should I enter?? Thanks
P.S. I'm guessing I would look out of place in my trail baggies

I have plenty of links to races on my website...check out the links to Brownbacks and the Gisburn enduro which are within easy driving distance...enjoy!

+1 for Brownbacks . Right now its based in Lee Quarry, shouldn't be too far from you.
Don't worry much about the clothing, I was wearing baggy shorts, pisspot and some random t shirt I found in my room, and managed to finish the race alive
There are three categories: Racer, Weekend Warrior and Have-A-Go-Hero. pretty simple!0 -

Thanks.
I've added a page on my website about entering your first event. You might find it useful

Great write up SiLanc! I'm doing my first race today.No-one wanted to eat Patagonia Toothfish so they renamed it Chilean Sea Bass and now it's in danger of over fishing!0
