Hi
Im looking for a new headset - small budget only up to about £35.
I have seen good things about the FSA pig but wondered if there are any headsets with a smaller stack height?
I dont ride particulary difficult stuff - just have a go at small / medium things e.g. chicksands.
Cheers

FSA Orbit 2 is a popular choice, I think it's official a roadie headset but it works fine, very watertight. Inasmuch as you can like a headset, I like mine. I don't know if it's tall or not, it's taller than my OEM headset though.

the orbit 2 is noit an exclusive Road heaset it is just a good headset. had one on XC/DH and other bikes.

the Pig cheap cheerful and strong.

there are two versions and the more expensive is a lot better.

    what was your old headset?

why do you want a smaller stack height?

what height would be good and are you wanting a standard fit headset?

dont have a headset currently - its a new build.

I want a small stack height becase I am experimenting with different setups on different bikes and the steerer tube in the forks i am testing is pre-cut.

just to clarify - im looking for an external bearing headset (aheadset, threadless) 1 1/8th steerer, small stack height, for general purpose riding.

Doing some more searching and came across sunline V2 headsets. Although they dont say, they look like an external headset but the blurb just says "no compatibility issues"

Cant find much info about them - anybody used them? (or know not to!)

I used to buy & constantly take apart/clean cheaper headsets only for them to last a year or two,, then in 1998 I splashed out on a Chris King.
About 4 bikes, 11 years later & after only minor maintainence I still have the same one.
Might seem a lot of money (allthough they are available cheaper now than what I paid for it) & it's slightly higher than you asked (31.4) but it was so worth the money as everytime I take it out it stillgleams like new.
