Hi just back from doing hellvelyn in the lakes :D . Cracking route IF you do what i didn,t!.
There was a route in one of the mags i forget which one now but unless you have a death wish and an indestuctible bike don't do it!!!!! .The route you should do for a great ride is as follows ;Starting at Glenridding PO up the track past the cafes ,follow up through campsite go right on the minor road and follow round onto Greenside Rd .Go all the way up to the old mine workings and YH take the LH track following Glenridding Beck .At an obvious fork in the track take the steep Rh option ,follow this all the way to summit of Whiteside Bank {if you do this dab free or with out walking i kneel before you}.Follow the ridge to the left up Lower Man and on up to trig point on Hellvelyn {carry on another 100 meters and there is a sheltered resting place} .At this point i would strongly reccomend turning round and going back the same way .:D MEGA !!!! 100% rideable downhill . DON'T  carry on and descend via Collywagon Pike and Grisedale Tarn/Beck it's CRAP ,unless you are Douggie Lampkin yomp ,yomp .Why walk this way ,when you can SWOOP down the other at about 10Gs .Go early and you will beat the crowds and have a largely uninterupted downhill ENJOY!!!!!! . If you're wondering i went back up next day to do it. Rewritten for those who are hard of reading.

ooooooooooooooooooh get you i'm a rider not a writer
  • That's a damned hard report to read. I gave up after the first line.

Must agree with Dave, grammar and punctuation would help.

    Hi Cammer
I would seriouly not even contemplate Dollywagon descent it really is CRAP!!!! .Like i said unless you are a trials master with 15 inches of travel on yer bike forget it , but if you like handbagging then go for it.
    Cheers Trav

Its actually just a technical descent, most people manage with 4-6inch of travel.I've seen it done on a full rigid about 10-15 years back..i was walking up and just sat and watched in awe 8)
Sticks Pass is a better descent if you're a bit unsure Dollywagon Pike.
Personally i like my descents rocky, steep and technical and if i'd just pedalled up the highest legal mountain(for bikes)in the country i'd be very disappointed if the descent was anything but.For me that's the whole point of riding up the mountain 8)
