Afternoon all.

I am currently looking to aquire a shorter Stem for my trusty steed as I want to see how that affects my ride. Sometimes feel too over stretched whilst out riding.

The component is currently stock 'Specialized adjustable rise, 31.8mm clamp, 3D forged w/CNC finish' and I was hoping for some advice on a suitable replacement...but shorter.

Budget not really too much of an issue.

Thanks in advance for any help.

What you want to do is buy a series of cheap stems in short lengths, say 40, 50 and 70mm then buy a thomson when you know what you want.

How long is the current one? You probably only want to knock about 20mm off it.

I think that it is in the region of 100mm but not sure. Will measure it when I get home.

Good idea re: buying cheaper shorter stems thought, thanks. You reckon that Thompson is the way to go once I have decided on the length?

What size is the bike? I have a 08 Stumpy Pro FSR in Large, and have changed stem from 105mm to 90mm, feels good, and am gonna buy a Thomson. The stem I fitted is exactly the same as standard and in 'as new' condition, bought it on here for £15 I think, any how if you want to give me £15, I'll stick it in the post to you, and you can try then sell on.....

How do you measure the stem length please?
I'm guessing center to center but easy question to answer.

    Thanks

My Stumpy FSR 2008 (size M) came with a 90mm stem which i found too long and affected the steering. Replaced with a 70mm Race Face Evolve stem thats transformed the bike.

    Hope that helps
