Was amazing! Must be one of the best goals ever scored. In terms of power it must be unrivalled.

    Was a real beut.

That chelsea freekick wasn't half slow either though....
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.

Not as far out, but i'd agree that it must have been hit harder than ronaldo's.

    Both awesome goals though.

Always easier when its a dead ball which makes the Ronaldo one so special. He hardly seemed to have any backlift or follow through. Just pinged it! But yeh, that Alex goal was a rocket and Theo's effort for the Gooners was lovely too. Some special goals scored recently for sure.

I agree that the ronaldo goal was the better goal, but I disagree that it's easier to generate the power from a dead ball.

Was a great finish by walcott, I still think he's much better when played centrally...

Going to be a real good semi I hope so the next question is who's going through to the final?

I think the Gooners will just make it if they can get their defence sorted, Gallas, Clichy, Almunia and Djourou are all out injured atm, Sagna is ill but hopefully all bar Gallas will be back in time for the games. Should make for a fantastic semi...

I meant the accuracy and control rather than the power, Rob. Easier when the ball is placed and you can take your run up and hit it exactly as you want. He hit it on the run which is more difficult I think.

I think he's said it was the best goal he's ever scored. I don't doubt it!

Playing 5-a-side tonight so no doubt a few will be over the fence attempting to recreate it!

I think Martins' goal against Spurs in the league holds the record for the most powerful goal, it was something like 80mph if i remember correctly.

Wasn't from such range though was it Henry? If its the one I'm thinking of. The remarkable thing was that Ronaldo's didn't seem to dip, just went like an arrow from foot to goal. I'd like to know how fast it went as I guess thats the ultimate measure of the power of the shot. Is it some technique he's got though? I remember him talking about the way he hit that free kick a few weeks back being unusual? He seems to be able to make it defy gravity. I imagine Martin's goal would have dipped if it had been struck from further out as do most long range efforts? The goalie is often beaten by swerve and movement in the air rather than just the speed of the shot. How does he do it?!

He is still a big girls blouse. Viva Barca anyway  .

Its not directed at any of you but my office is full of Mugs who have never been to a game but "support" one of the big 4.

Martins goal against us was rubbish :P

Ronaldo's goal was 62mph. Quite incredible when you think about how the ball managed to maintain that speed all the way to the goal.

It didn't 'maintain that speed all the way to the goal'.

To tell you how fast it was going they will have measured how far it went, and how long it took.

It will have been traveling faster nearer the gelled tumbler than when it reached the goal.

I hate that duck, but it was a great dig.

    Come on Barca.

The only interest I have in football these days is working them as overtime but I used to play for my school so I have some appreciation.

As a result I thought I'd post links to the videos of these goals for people's delectation.

    Alex (Rubbish quality video!)

Proper goal, proper player, proper team, against the Plumstead scummers too. Footballing perfection.

Stand wherever the hell you like. Are you sure you want to stand there? Ready, are you sure? Here I come then.

This applies to so many footballers. They seem to fall down in agony as soon as another
player touches them. And as for the referees, they seem to be taken in by this all too often.

Mind you credit where credit is due. The ref in the Chelsea/Liverpool game gave a penalty
for the Chelsea defender wrestling the Liverpool forward to the ground. This sort of tactic
by defenders happens regularly without any punishment. And in those situation, I always get
the impression the that ref is looking elsewhere, perhaps at the corner taker, rather than
at the action in the penalty area.

What always makes me laugh is when Jonathon Foreigner does it against England, its cheating. When an Englishman does it for England, he is clever.

I never had it in me to realise that the best thing to do was fall over waving my arms around. I always fought to stay on my feet and win the ball back. They MUST practise it.

As there is a Spurs fan here, I'll say that my favourite goal ever is Keith Houchen's diving header in the 1987 FA Cup final (yes |I'm a coventry fan and it's my only moment of glory so shut up!) But the best goal I ever saw was by Glenn Hoddle against Watford in 1985..... sublime turn and chip into the far corner

By the way.... Nicky Summerbee holds the world record for hardest shot at 87 mph I think, closely followed by Steve Nicol

I'm surprised Phil Parkes hairspray alone wasn't enough to stop Metgod's shot

And it's common knowledge that Malcolm Macdonald's goal against Leicester in the mid 70's was the hardest shot of all time

    Stewie,

There was a typo in my original post that I've now corrected. I'm sure you knew what I

Thought the Alex goal was marginally better and certainly hit harder than the Ronaldo strike - both great goals though.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

What are you talking about  ? There wasnt a cup final in 1987. Everyone remembers that it was called off due to half of our shirts not having the sponsors logo on them and therefore we were unable to play  . I have seen some footage of some permed fat bloke launching himself at a ball but thats obviously fake, its looks like Pro Evo on the original Playstation.

Maander, I was just having my own rant  .

Rob, Jennings looks a bit like Rivaldo in that video.

    Stewie Griffin.....

The fact that Holsten refused to allow their name onto the shirts of anyone with a mullet (6 of the team if memory serves) did not cause the final to be called off, it just meant that Spurs looked like the amatuers my beloved Coventry proved them to be on the day (and in the March previous when the mighty Sky Blues won 4-3). Unfortunately they are now crap and Spurs are still half decent so I have to cling to long gone glories, especially as I was there as my 11th birthday pressie. Glenn Hoddle's goal against Watford is still the best I have ever seen though (IMHO)
