As it says... struggling to find more than small sections of trails without having to go on roads to connect them - what's the longest trail to the north or north east of Bath without having to keep going on roads?

from the northeast, canal until Bathampton, then down farm track to railway crossing, across field to railway viaduct, across viaduct to A363, pretty sure there's some paths going up to Browns Folly then follow the descent from the folly to the A363 go along the road for 100yds, cross road and drop-off through gap in stone-wall and follow paths to conkwell, dundas, bradford-on-avon etc...look at the 1:25000 os map for the area and follow the footpaths....(I know you shouldn't strictly ride on footpaths, but they are sooo much better than bridleways, and usually have less walkers than bridleways!)..plan a route carefully and you can minimise the tarmac..
Then you've always got Lansdown to Swineford, 95% off-road and Bath Uni/Claverton down too.
Try hooking up with the wednesday night rides which I think meet at the back of Bath Spa Staion at 6pm ish...0
