Moving there in august for a year (perth). Just wondered if anyone had shipped a bike over, how much it cost and any problems Oz side?

  • Pay roughly £20 if you are flying direct and have it on the plane with you. No issues with either NZ or OZ as long as you bike is spotlessly clean and I mean sparkly clean. If it isnt you may have to pay a cleaning charge. (well in NZ not 100% about OZ)

    Stumpy FSR Comp

    Wilier Izoard

1994 Shogun Prairie Breaker Expert...ahhh yesssss

    +1

Invest in a good quality bike bag and make sure there is not even a speck of dirt ANYWHERE.
I usually go once or twice a year to see my parents in Castlecrag in NSW and I use the opportunity do do a full service on the bike, strip everything down and re-grease/replace.
When I go, all I really take is a couple of bits and pieces and the bike, I have clothes and stuff already there.
If I were you, I would get an idea of how much stuff you are taking, how much it will all weigh (roughly) then find out from the airline how much they charge for excess. It's about 20-25kg for BA and I think about $50 per kg over. Try to shed as much weight as you can.
Oh, and if you are travelling 1st class or business class, you get extra allowances too :D

Well problem solved. I can't be arsed to clean my bike to the nth degree. They'll still find dirt with their scanners, somewhere.

Missus has said I can buy a bike there. Makes more sense, plus.... NEW BIKE!!! Thinking a nice sub 25lb hardtail so I can raz to work. Result! Now... How much are zaskars in Oz?

  • Zaskar Carbon Pro would set you back about $5k (£2,400ish)

BikeExchange.com.au is a good site, but once you get there you should be able to find some good deals locally.
