Sunrace 220A-6R gear problem

Hi
My son has the above gear shifters on his bike. Granted its not the most expensive bike but I would like to try and fix it.
Basically you can move up through the gears on it but coming back down is almost impossible. I have to jump on the tiny frame and try to get it back down which I am sure is pure comedy.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this type of problem and possible gear shifters?
I found this page that has similar looking gear - http://www.allproducts.com/manufacture6 ... 2206r.html
thanks for your time

Take it to your LBS... they'll wack it on a bike stand and should be able to sort it fairly quickly.
Could need new cables, re-indexing etc etc...0 -
sounds like sticky cables.
clean/lube or replace."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
