Carbon or aluminium seatpost - does it make a difference?

I'm going to buy a new seatpost for my roadbike. It's a carbon framed bike.
Looking at the Shimano Pro posts, and a PLT carbon isn't much more expensive (£15) than a Vibe 7S alloy post.
The alloy post is lighter.
I guess what I'm wondering, does a carbon post _really_ make a difference to the ride quality? Or should I go for the lighter and cheaper alloy post?
