I want to get some new riding glasses and like the idea of the Specialized Adaptalites.

Do they actually work?

Do they change from dark to light quickly? the spesh website says 15 seconds. I do most of my riding at trail centres so am going from fireroads into darker sections of singletrack and am a bit concerned they will still be black and I won't be able to see!

I have seen a few different models at different online bike shops for just under £50 reduced from £80, is there any thing else I should consider at this sort of money?

yep they work, though it's not instant about 15-20 secs i guess, i don't notice them doing it which is a good thing i guess :)

Mine work well from that point of view and the model I've got are fairly comfortable. Only problems I've had is with fogging, but then I am a sweaty git.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

How are they in darker conditions?

I've been on the Spesh website and there's a section that shows you how they look in different situations, fireroad, woods etc they look really good, which ones have you got?

i got the Berm with the yellow lenses (makes everything look warmer :)) as my head is on the small side. only negative point is i have to look round a bit further when checking whats behind me as the sides are a bit chunky.

    Do they look like this?

Do you use them all year round? I use clear lenses at the moment all year round so they would need to be suitable all the time, which from what the website says they are.

Actually that link doesn't quite work

You need to click on the MTB icon and then on the Adaptalite + Colour Optimization, it then shows you what they should look like in different conditions, I just wondered how acurate it is.

yep thats them, well the lenses anyway, the frames are halftimes i think. it's a pretty good representation of what they look like though i'd say they go a bit darker in very bright sunlight/uv levels.

edit; not suitable once the sun goes down. need clear lenses then or you'll just ride into a tree or worse even with lights on the bike. so yeah all year round but not evenings, use my cheap madison wishbones with clear lenses for that.
