I currently use a hybrid type bike to commute from Rotherham to Sheffield but am considering changing to a road bike and use more on weekends etc. After some research I am really drawn to the Chris Boardman Team Carbon bike, £1,000. My goal to get to and more so from work in the shortest time possible.

Questions.

Is the bike suitable for the everyday use intended ie Sheffield roads have a tons of metal turnings to cause punctures, bad pot holes and also I have been known to jump up and off the odd kerb when taking short cuts (but could avoid if completely out of the question).

Is the price tag really justifiable given the goal or would getting the cheaper Boardman models be a negligible time difference. (I realise justification will be different from person to person but want a general idea).

If I do go for a Boardman bike, given I don't think I will be measured before ordering can I confirm I should go for the Medium frame. I'm 5ft 11, weigh over 15 stone (vary between muscular and fat tone depending on the moon) with average of three measurements of the inside leg of 30 & 3/4 inchs.

How likely and/or far are Halfords likely to haggle over price or freebies eg pedals.

Any opinions on my million questions greatly appreciated.
