What the hell happened matey?
Got any full pics?
You alright?0 -
Yeah I'm fine, stupidly enough it happened on a bit of fire road just before the last off road bit of Penmachno on Saturday. Ive got a feeling the speed I came down the previous bumpy bit might not have helped, but we just did the climb back up the fire road and as it turned to go down hill again the bike picked up speed, wasnt really pedalling and think i hit a bump and the back wheel locked solid. Thought it was a brake prob but it was the frame. I think its bad design to be honest as it snapped where its had the calliper lug welded to spread the load (directly to the middle of the unsupported part of the seat stay which seems a bit odd).
I've had my moneys worth out of that bike to be honest and I dont hold it against it as its done a fair few miles now so in my eyes it doesnt owe me anything, but need to start saving up for a replacement sharpish now!!
Torn between a remedy or a fuel at the moment. Hired a remedy to go round Coed-Y-Brenin on Sunday and it was v v nice indeed, but not sure if a little overkill for what I would need it for.http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/6933696372_603c9ce220_b.jpg

Will this buff out?
Depending on your bike make is it covered under warranty as quite a few frame have a life time warranty on them? Doesn't sound like you were miss using it from your report. You never know

It was quite funny...we'd been cocking around all day doing the odd skid (inspired by the now legendary "rad to the power of sick, I did a skid so cool a girl got pregnant just by looking at it" Australian eBay BMX advert) and the joke (and our tires) were wearing a bit thin, and I was following Chris on a downhill fireroad at the best part of 30mph when he suddenly locks the back solid...I was thinking "erm, that's quite brave, because that's gonna be one hell of a flat spot followed by a big slimey bang"...but even before he'd stopped it was fairly obvious the back wheel was no longer following the front!
It would have been seriously bad news had it happened a few hundred metres earlier. Respect though...he rode it back to the carpark!0 -
What bike is it? Just asking so we can check for a weak spot if anyone else has the same bike.
The photo makes it look like a four-bar from four or so years ago? Specialized stumpy?0 -
I reckon it looks like a Spesh too - if so, its worth getting in touch as it could have a lifetime warranty. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Dunno, the fire roads on Penmachno seem to be pretty lethal!0 -
Hi everyone,
Yes it is/was a stumpjumper fsr xc pro from about 2001 I reckon. Ive had it 7 years now so have had my moneys worth really and cant complain. A few people are saying it could be TIG welded, but Im not sure I would trust it as much ever again and it would always be niggling in the back of my mind when Im in the middle of nowhere.
So a new bike is on the cards then. As i said earlier I hired this:
and rode round coed-y-brenin at a fair old lick and it just took everything in its stride.
But i cant help wonder if its just too much for what I do. Would i be better off with a fuel?
Arghh..... or an enduro, or a pitch pro..... so many options.....http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/6933696372_603c9ce220_b.jpg

Nope just had a reply email from specialized. It seems I was on a hiding to nothing as i bought it second hand anyway but if I had had it since new, it still wouldnt have been covered as although they say that their frames do have a limited lifetime warranty for the time you own it if bought new, they also go on to say: "Our full suspension frames have a 5 year limited warranty on chainstays and seatstays". Which seems a bit of a cop out as presumably these are the bits that break the most.
Anyway, after reading the small print, Trek it is then next I think.... Thanks Spesh!http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7231/6933696372_603c9ce220_b.jpg

I'd recommend a demo of the Fuel Ex 8, I'm a little biased as I now own one, but it seems like an ideal trail bike to me.0
