Recently changed from Anatomic Drops to Compact drops and they are great on my other bike so I've just placed an order for a new set of these compact bars which are oversize. My current stem on my Planet X is a regular sized Planet X branded stem (105gm) so I'm going to replace my stem as well. Never much liked this stem anyway as it has already started to look pretty shabby and that's only after 1 winter so I hate to think what it will look like this time next year so now seems a good time to change (well I have to if I want to get th same bars as they only come in oversize).

Any recommendations for a good 31.8mm clamped (1 1/8") 100mm long stem (current has a 6 deg rise and can be flipped). Don't want to spend much in excess of £50 if possible. Has to be able to cope with winter commutes and hopefully keep its looks as well.

Thanks

the usual suspects: Thomson, Ritchey, Syntace, FSA, Easton

Just spotted a Easton EA70 available from a local shop @ £29.99. Looks a bargain.

    3T are also pretty cheap.

If you have a Thomson seat post (?), you need a Thomson stem too

Not on that bike - at least not yet though I've since noticed since my what seatpost post that I've still got 2cm of rail left to move my Planet X forward so I will probably not need to change the seatpost on this one unlike the Scott which is completely out of space and I do need to move it forward at least 2-3mm.

As regards the components on the Planet X then it is a real mishmash. I will have FSA Compact bars, Planet X headset (though want to upgrade that to a Chris King eventually - if I ever see a bargain), Spesh Saddle, Planet X Carbon Seatpost, Dura Ace Groupset except for FSA chainset & bottom bracket. So I guess FSA might be the most natural choice especially as they will be used alongside the FSA bars.

There's something about the EA70 stem that doesn't shout buy me. I think it is the branding on the side that is putting me off. It's a bit gharish.

Went for the Thompson in the end as I found it on Merlin at £20 cheaper than anywhere else so couldn't refuse it and more importantly it actually was the best looking that I could find

    Thanks
