Just placed my order too. Still can't quite believe I'm spending this much money on a bike, it'll hit me in the morning. :)

  • I've been in the Preston store today. One of the sales men said this frame is sold out just now, except for some of the very small frame sizes. They are waiting for more stock of the 'popular' sizes to arrive. These are likely to be more expensive.

Ok, so this post has pushed me over the edge too and 'I want one of those'!!

Now...is the Ultegra equipped bike worth an extra £100 than the Centaur one?

Read a few other posts - some suggest Centaur has been downspecced this year, others saying the Ultegra is more expensive purely as the conversion rate Yen to £ is so poor right now...any thoughts? (This is my first road bike for 15 years and never ridden anything other than Shimano previously..)

Have to say the Campag wheels look a wee bit nicer than the Fulcrum 7's on the Ultegra bike..but then again..in Red..hmmmmm!!!

I HOPE the price hasn't gone up when I get up tomorrow!!

To avoid the price hikes and the Ribble logos I have been considering this in plain naked carbon finish for about the same price (Free Worldwide shipping)

Quick question for those who've just placed orders: have you been charged the £100 deposit? I don't appear to have yet, just wondering if this is normal.

I've seen on of these - very nice. I got my Nero Corsa from Ribble (I live near Preston) and found them to be very good. Love my bike - the best I've owned and I've had some costing 50% more. Going to the shop does mean you can get on the jig - I got a shorter than normal stem on my £999 special.

  • ribble preauth everybodys cards which basically checks you have the funds available and then ringfences them so you can't go out and spend it all so the system knows that when the bike is ready they can almost guarantee that the charge will go through.

for parts orders you wouldnt really notice as they are probably despatched the same day you place the order but it is a bit more noticeable when its a £1000 bike.

When I ordered I checked the box for paying a £100 deposit, and the balance the day before despatch.

Oh right - I ordered by phone and wasn't offered that sort of option. I'm not too fussed to be honest providing they get on with sending me a receipt so I can get started on claiming the cash back from my employer's bike scheme.

MichaelCycles - as far as my card company is concerned the charge has been made against the card.

  • Ok, so I've already ordered my CycleScheme voucher for Ribble Cycles and had my heart set on medium sized Sportive. But all of a sudden i'm in a panic and think i might need a large frame instead. Can any of you experienced roadies (been riding MTBs for the last 6yrs) give me some advise?

The problem is I'm 5'9.5", so I'm right in between their M/L sizing. My inside leg is only 80cm, so looking at the charts i figured I'd best suit a Medium frame.

However I've just recently test rode a FELT Z35 size 54 (Ribble don't provide test ride bikes), and the geometry's very similar to the medium Sportive. It was awful. After a 10min ride I noticed whilst climbing I already had lower back pain (I pride myself on my core strength) and it left sluggish on the restarts. When I got up to 20+ mph it did however feel pretty good and the carbon really took the bumps out of the road. 56's geometry is nowhere near the large Sportive, so no point testing that.

I've also tested the 54 Colnago Primavara 09 (definetely more of a 56 & aluminium) and the Wilier Mortirolo veloce in a large. Loved the Wilier, but for that price I could spec the Ribble with Centaur groupset, better wheels and still save myself a couple of hundred pound. The frame measurement look very similar to the Sportives large, but I understand the angle of the geometry are different and these 2 bike have a more performance shape. Also the TT on the Ribble is slightly longer, all be it by only 10mm

Please HELP if you can, any advice would be welcome. If anyone already has a Ribble Sportive in a M or L, I'd love to hear your experiences of the frame. And if you actually live in or around London and want to really solve my dilemma I'd really like to meet your bike.

I think you are too small for the large Sportive- it has a top tube of 57cm -I suppose it depends on your reach but the Medium sounds a much more likely bet and would be what i would go for at your height and inside leg.

I am 6'tall with 34" inside leg and all the bikes I ride are a 56cm frame with top-tube between 56 and 57 cm.
  • Thanks, that helps. Looks Iike I'll be going for the medium now.

Just visited Pedal Force's website, (the Ribble Sportives OEM). Typed in my measurements and had a play on their bike fitting page and it's suggested I use a 120 stem with the medium frame.

Worried it might be twitchy. How does this sound to you?

12cm stem will be fine. they generally advise a stem length of between 10cm and 13cm for best handling.

I am 5 feet 9 inch with a 30inch inside leg and purchased a ribble sportive in medium intially with a 110 stem because I have that size stem on all my other bikes but needed to go down after buying the bike to a 90 because the reach was too much. If richardworkshards wants to try my bike out for size pm me and I can see if I can help.
