Bike2Work ... a crime not to get something?

I'm the very happy owner of a two-year-old Specialized Tricross, which I use for occasional commuting (10 miles each way), and for doing road rides at weekend of around 30-40 miles, intending to build up this year to occasional 70-80 mile rides.

Thing is, I'm torn. I've absolutely no need for a new bike, and I certainly can't think of any other bike that's better suited to me for the road (I'm almost 300lbs, so one of these flimsy, light-weight carbon-fibre racing machines is a bit useless), but with BIke2Work I can pay a smidgeon over £40 a month for a year to have a brand new, £1,000 bike! Even if I sold if after a year, I'd possibly still be quids in.

So, help me out ... I'm a big lad, and I've no need of something else for the road, so suggest something fun for me. I'm quite certain that there's plenty of good off-road opportunities for me around South Oxfordshire and Berkshire. I believe a grand is about when you can start to get a half-decent full-suss bike (always been a Specialized fan), but should I look at an even better hardtail instead?

Check the hardtail and full-suss stickies at the top of this forum. A grand is where you can find many decent full-suss bikes so it is a great price point to be considering - it really does leave all your options open it terms of the full-suss, hardtail choice.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I did see them, but at the moment, I don't even know which one I should get of the two types, and what I need to bear in mind considering my size ....
