hi there
i have recently purchased a new quality steel framed mtb which cost around a grand.
after my first hose down i noticed rust coming out of the little air holes in the frame
so i sprayed a bit of gt 85 in the holes to get rid of the moisture, more rust came out.
anyway i have just had a look down my seat tube and theres lots of rust right down the tube and even looks like theres rust comming out of the connecting tubes. this rust looks fairly heavy is this normal. looking at the rust i would give my frame a couple of years max.
you would of thought the inside of the frame will be treated with some thing to prevent this. any advice please....
thanks neil

Spray a can of wd40 inside the frame. Through the seatpost etc. Its alot better than GT85 for rust prevention and the oily residue remains alot longer.0

waxoyl is designed for this, i think decent car shops will stock it.0

^^Thats a good idea^^ I'm sure you can get it in small tins, not just the big drums lol !
Does waxoil not become a little runny if it gets hot though ?0 -
cheers
nothing to wory about then was starting to think my frame will rust away.
will give it a bit of wd40 thanks..................
er whats wrong with gt 85 have been using as a lube after cleaning.0 -
Its almost impossible to avoid. It's only surface rust and nothing to worry about, gets in via the seat tube... I wouldn't worry about it, its steel and can't be helped!0
