Last Monday i upgraded my specialized allez to a pinnarello FP3. Have not ridden it all week but i've been itching to get out on her.
Finally had time yesterday so pushed it into the carpark from my shed and sat on. Clipped in my right foot and pushed off, desperately tried to turn the left pedal over to clip that foot in and started to lose my balance due to lack of speed. Could'nt get my right foot out to support the bike and crashed into the sodding deck! Scuffed the seat, the rear derrailleur the brake lever, the front shifter, the pedal and my blinking elbow!
Great start!

oh no and you first ride
yep has a coupl of clipless moments. new bike, new pedals.
Only (very minor) saving grace - your blushing (and probably swearing) was done in private."Bed is for sleepy people.
Let's get a kebab and go to a disco."

Sadly no. Don't have a Pinarello.
The best bike I've been able to scratch in a clipless pratfall was a Bianchi Via Nirone.
By the time I'd indulged my titanium fantasy I was able to take the stabiliser wheels off.Where the neon madmen climb0 -
yep. Years ago had a massive crash on my MTB and walked away with no injuries. Laughed and clipped in to carry on and fell over & smashed my knee & elbow0

Never done it on a road bike, but had a few "you've been framed" moments on the MTB. Best one was on a small sandy hill at Woburn. Stood up for the climb, rear wheel lost traction and span (grrrr @ full suss). I went to unclip my left foot as I started to topple that way but the cleat bolts were loose and the cleat stayed put as I turned my ankle and I ended up landing on my back 2 feet below the bridleway in a ditch with both feet still in the pedals and hands still on the bars!0

Never on a road bike but on my MTB. If I'd known this was going to happen I'd have made a killing on the tickets I'd have sold.
Tearing down a track hit some sand at the bottom wham!!!! lost all traction, turned the cranks in a desperate measure to keep momentum, couldn't, keeled over to the left and fell into the largest bush of nettles you could imagine. Trapped, in effect under my bike I endevoured to unclip out of my pedals, which I did after what seemed like an eternity and my arms and legs looked like they'd been flailed to within an inch of my life.
I even laughed at the time. Still wish I could have sold tickets.Tail end Charlie

I had the clipless moment infront of a stationary bus at a bus stop. In a Quick-Step jersey with matching cotton cap. 8)
It happened so slowly!Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -
Few weeks ago I thought I'd better play safe and start to practice putting my left foot down first as my right foot is by far the most instinctive. was still turning right on a junction when I came to a stop, so left foot had no weight on it and I fell in to the middle of the road, just as a Range Rover appeared round the corner.0

My old Ridgback was shiney and sparkley new, 2 weeks old, when I propped it up in my parent's garage. I can still remember the twisting sensation in my gut as I watched it topple over, knowing that there was no way in hell that I'd be able to reach it in time. Can't remember what it hit, but it put a large dent in the top tube.A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0

This morning, lovely 2hour ride in the countryside, birds singing, grass growing, all right with the world. Nearing the end of the ride I approach a T junction from yhe lane onto a wide and swift road. Await short stream of cars from right, all clear; over I go. But I have not raised the pedal to the proper hieght to push off. Insufficient impulsion and left foot not clipped into SPDsl's. Try scooting with free foot, still no traffic approaching but the opposite kerb is very close as I approach at 90degrees.
Still not clipped in, still no impulsion; doomed! There is a wide, grassy verge beyond the kerb. Sharp turn of front wheel to avoid rim damage then a slow motion scramble onto grass.
Pick myself up, brush down bike and remove bits of grass, etc. Return home and say nothing. About to enter shower when wife says "whats that mark on your leg?" Bright red weal on upper thigh where the handlebar must have caught me. Truth will out.
It was all so slow and all so clumsy. :oops:The older I get the faster I was0 -
Most memorable was rolling up to a junction, unclipping well in advance, then stopping, and leaning to the clipped in side! It was a slow and unceremonial fall, even had enough time to think 'just hold on and take the hit', protecting the bike, wry smile on my face...wounds heal, paint and Lorica saddles are harder to repair!

This is what gets me the most, I have enough time to think about looking over my shoulder to check if Im about to fall in front of a Bus or something. I have enough time to utter every swear word I know with more than enough time to confirm that I do believe in God again and to ask yet again for this one little thing to work out in my favour. There is enough time to look down and check whether Im going to land on gravel or in a pot hole and how I can take the brunt of this and not my bike.
There is rarely enough time however to get my shoes and my pedals apart though, why?0 -
I've only had 3 clipless falls.
First one was into some nettles and all that as we had to stop for white van in the way, I fell and cut my leg open, got a scar from that, the second one was at a junction after 150miles of riding, I fell over and though that's it and got my dad to come pick me up, it p155ed me off so much, was going to ride home untill that happened.
Second time was pulling up to a stop and I fell right into a bin, lukilly I never fell all the way thanks to the giant bin in the way.0
