Looking to race XC

Hello All,
I have had a mountain bike for last few months (kraken special edition) and am gradually getting out more. I am just finishing my prep for bodybuilding comp (i compete in small class so won't hamper riding). As part of my prep have been on spinning bike 2 hours everyday and decided how boring that was and got out on the bike today. Well fitness is good and really enjoyed. I need a new focus to keep me fit when show is done so wanted to aim eventually for entering a couple of XC races. I realise I am going to have to train for this and it won't come easy
Are there any events or races around the south west (I am in westbury wilts) that would be suitable for dipping my toe without looking a fool
Also any advice on what to work on etc would be much appreciated.

Thanks for that I will have a look. I think that was the mag I picked up yesterday
On a side note have done 40 mins this morning on MB. Was shattered as I am on around 1500Kcals at the moment for comp diet with zero carbs. Needless to say I was shattered lol0 -
This might be a stupid question but do you have to pay to enter a race or a comp?GENESIS CORE 200

Yes, usually you do. Google for Brownbacks, you might have enough time to enter later rounds (first one is 19th April in Lee Quarry). You could try to go on the day and pay by cash (if there are enough spaces left).
Its £10 per day.0
