Do LIGHTER deep section wheels make a difference?

When riding/racing crit-style on flat circuits, will a set of lighter deep section wheels make a difference over a heavier set? Or once they get rolling is the benefit basically the same?

I have a set of Mavic Cosmic Clinchers that I train on daily but they are 'heavy' compared to a full carbon set of tub wheels.

So stick with the Cosmic's or look for something lighter?

If there is no stopping and starting not much in it as the aero benefit is more important than the weight. Repeted accelerations or climbing and its a different story. Tight corners in a crit you may be better on something as light and rigid as you can get.

A lighter wheel generally feels faster - it takes less effort to 'spin-up' - an aero wheel doesn't really provide a benefit unless you're in clean air at speeds in excess of 40kph. For crits, I'd chose something light, stiff and strong like a Shamal to withstand the rough handling and potential crashes - carbon wheels don't like crashes!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
