All I can say is ow!

Right now I've gotten that out of the way, here is a little story that some may like and some may not..

Yesterday whilst out on the trail we were having an ace time, found some new lines and pushed the bike harder as it was a bit dry...Getting max fun out of the hardtail..It seems it actually likes rocks, but not tree routes on the front wheel...plus I did get the better of my nemisis drop, it's not a major drop but there is only one line into it and about 5ft, but it got the better of me last time but now it's my bitch :)

Anyway that was the great part, the next part is not so much fun.............I will now always wear shin protection after my lesson... PEDAL FRELLING HURT!!!

Dont look if you dont like a bit of gash...........................or cuts even.....

(This is what I picked up in naaaaammmmm)

Ok now are you happy, well are you pedals! Are you happy you made the nurse poke around inside my leg with a white pointy stick, are you happy that I had to bend over and get a needle in the ass, and are you happy with the week long supply of strong anti-biotics I now have to take, stopping me from partaking in a whisky...

So people apart from putting the Radio Times down my socks can anyone recommend a real good pair of shin guards, not real heavy ones though.

Anyways dont slip of ya pedals,,

Hehe, welcome to the club! Done it so often now, got loads of scars on my shins.

I now use cheap football shin pads that fit sown my socks and velcro at the back.

    Cheers supersonic.......

i dont really get tht problem... but then again i use clipless peds not flats, i did once use these cheap metal ones though and because it was a bit wet/muddy my feet kept slipping and i had what looked like a load of thorn marks up my legs it hurt quite a bit but no where near as bad as your one obv.
  • Not a nice feeling is it. I was out practicing drop-offs with a friend the other day.

He always brings his dog out when we go riding...

Anyhoo, got a run up to tackle a fairly tame (still on my L plates) drop.
Launch smoothly off the ledge, cue dog running exitedly under my front wheel.
Grab fist fulls of brake in a panic to avoid squashing woof-woof, landed all squirrelly and cruched my shin into my pedal.

    Saved the dog though.
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.

Nah it kinda hurts worse the next day... last night I was numb on rum. This morning and this afternoon it hurts..lol never mind rambo never needed stitches..lol

Nice one on saving the dog man!!
  • Did this really bad on a commute once, was trying to get out of the way of a bus and foot and pedal just suddendly decided they weren't friends.

Swapped to SPDs about 2 days later, never looked back (although I appreciate it's not ideal for all riding styles).
  • Done this loads of times.. got a nice big scar on my leg. I did it over a jump at spooky wood in glentress - landed, scraped my leg, wacked my nuts on my top tube and fell off into a bush

go clipless. Your feet wont slip off the pedals, and if they do there aren't any metal spikes on them!

My story is identical except I was coming back from the shops. Got some lovely scars on my shin.
  • My shins are COVERED in scars, cuts and bruises. A couple of years ago a pedal caught the inside of my shin so hard it bruised under the periosteum and took 3 months for the bruise to completely disappear! Luckily my legs are hairy enough that you can't tell unless you know what you're looking for.

LOL, last time that happened to me they couldnt stitch it, nor would the bleeding stop. in thhe end a cast was the only thing that would let the thing heal. 3 cm by 3 cm, doesnt sound like much, but it is, when it was because of pedals.. worse than that, i had to cycle to the doctors with large quantities of blood pouring down my leg.

conclusion of getting the pedals in the shin is :

bad if: you dont like pain.

good if: your legs need warming up on a chilly day :D
  • I tweaked the colour a wee bit on this to make it show up a bit better, and you can clearly see a hairless patch towards the lower part of my shin where at some point or other pretty much all the skin has been removed. If I could go back to when I was 10 and had unblemished legs then I'd start wearing pads but I don't see the point any more!

    lol :D

Not that i've got any (but thinking about) it i've heard 661 veggie wraps are good. Light neoprene shin guards and fend of the pedal tatooing quite well. My legs are pretty "V12ed" too! Slipped off the front at theford last friday and now got a nice cut on my calf. Stung a bit to say the least
    go clipless.
Real men ride flats (maybe) :D
