I recently purcased a Boardman Road Comp and not being used to the presta value I busted the valve. I have changed tyres plenty of times on my mountain bike but I cannot get the tyre off? Can someone tell me how to get this ffffing tyre off without chucking the wheel out of the window.

  • Thanks for reply cadseen. I am trying to get the tyre off with a couple of old steel tyre levers and they are marking the wheel. I will go and buy a set of plastic tyre levers tomorrow. Thanks.

If its a s tough as you say (and ive had tough tyres to get off) you may want to invest in some good plastic levers. I have snapped countless plastic tyre levers and the only only ones i use now are metal ones which i have wrapped tape around the ends to stop them from marking the rims

  • You can buy plastic tyre levers with metal inserts. Many plastic tyre levers are about as much use as tits on a fish for some tyre/wheel combinations.
  • Exactly the same thing happened to me this morning on my Boardman Team Carbon. Had a flat, fixed it and the the bloody valve died. The wee bit at the top came off and disappeared in to the undergrowth! This left me with a 10 mile walk home.

I struggled to get the tire back on too, gave up in the end as the tube wasn't going to inflate anyway. Anyone got any tips on getting the tire back on? I can get most of it back on but the last wee section just doesn't want to pop back in, almost like it's too small!

Needless to say I had an almighty strop at the side of the road. Biiiiig sense of humour failure.
