I am thinking along the lines of......my car, bike, tent and one months salary and just buggering off for a while...

Looking at doing a few trail centres, but not sure whether to do Wales or Scotland... any inspiration or ideas ???

Looking to do it in May or September...

If you did Scotland you have a wealth of centres to go at. All the 7Stanes and some other mixed in further north, Fort Bill and Laggan for example. I'm sure a lot of people will tell you about the depth of stuff Wales has to offer but I'll leave that to them. I've just never seen the appeal and never really enjoyed the centres as much.

I have to admit I have done Fort Bill and Laggan quite a few times, I was impressedd with Laggan, never done any of the 7 stanes though...

I'm kinda hoping to meet up with a few people off the forums along the way as I will be doing it solo...

+1 for Laggan, plus Golspie and Balblair!

    OR

    Day 1 - Kielder- O'night in Dumfries(ish) curry/beers

Day 2 - Ae in the morning, then onto Mabie in the afternoon. easily do-able. Then drive to Newton Stewart for overnighter - curry/beers

    Day 3 - Kirroughtree - home!

    All fantastic trails.

    OR

Day 1 Glentress - Black route - overnight at Glentress Hotel

Day 2 Glentress - Red route and freeride park

    Day 3 Innerleithen - Home!

If you choose Scotland give me a shout. I`m in Dumfries so Stanes are my thang. There is also Drumlanrigg

I also know a fair few hill routes here and there.

You could also do some Lakes and Howgills rides on the way up/down from wherever you are travelling. Where from btw? Get a better idea of where to ride etc.

eg http://www.forestry.gov.uk/alturatrail . Add to that the Borrowdale Bash, Blencartha/Gledertarra/Latrigg and the routes round the back`o Skiddaw and you have another 2/3 days worth of riding.

if i had a months salary and enough time i'd do the alps.

france , switzerland and then some sun in italy. you can do most of the uk in weekends so why not make a real trip of it? :D

I'd say Wales, but being Welsh I'm biased. Couple of days hitting the SW centres, Cwmcarn, Brecfa, Afan and then make your way north through Coed, Penmacho, Climachx and Llandegla.

I don't want to sound out of order, but is there ANY decent riding to be found in England? Ha ha. All I read on here is where to: Wales or Scotland?

Well, we have just had a long weekend I guess.

I wasn't trying to take the mick, but I've heard about Chicksands, but I'm told it's a bit flat and Blandford but other than that.....

A lot of the Scottish trail centres are featured in the current MBUK, I've not got round to reading it in any detail yet, but I think there's a lot of info on what to expect at the centres up there.

I see, say no more...

If you're staying on the island I'd say do it all. Start in Wales and work your way up to Scotland. You can get a lot of riding done in a month. I'll be staying around the corner from Coed y Brenin during the first week in May, I quite like it there. However, it's a shame you can't spend a month in the Alps in September, that would be awesome! :D
    Many happy trails!

Well worth a go. we do have some really really trails round this part of the world, and being such a small Island, they are all nice and close together :D

I will rephrase that, makes me sound a bit dodgy.....

As it happens (like you) I had booked a week away very close to CYB in May with the GF, but I had to cancel it. I usually go away with the GF to Scotland each year for the MTB world cup at Fort Bill, but she doesn't want to go there either....

I have reached the point where I am thinking sod it, I'm just going to do something and not plan it too much...and go it alone....

The main reason is that this will be my first holiday/trip going solo and without sounding girly for a very very long time, so the UK would keep things simple... :D
