I live about an hour from the forest of Dean but never seem to hear anything about what the trails are like there, if there is any?

There was an article about it in MBUK last year sometime. From what I can remember the official trail's pretty short but good fun. Although I think they said it was in need of some maintenance. Very rooty too apparently.

Thats madness....there are miles and miles of trails in Forest of dean and also some fairly decent constructed downhill type trails with small jumps and bridges too.

We are going there this weekend staying at fodmtb....will try and take some pics and put them up.

You need a week really to explore and discover the unpublicised stuff that does exist.

i'm afraid you need to develop a knowledge of the tracks and trails in the FOD, the marked routes are good, but its not a hardcore trail centre, it tries to cater for all, family, leisure, etc,

the red route has been improved over the winter, its pretty good and the Sallow Vallets area is dedicated for biking,

I grew up there and spent most of my youth biking in and around the Forest, got my knowledge from forest workers who were also into biking and other local riders, plus lots of exploring, even now I find new routes (and get lost).

The FODCA trail is well worth a visit, not the most challenging but has some fun features and definately not designed for families!

It is quite short so I normally blast round it a few times then wander off into Sallow Vallets or take in a loop of the forest.

the FOD Cycle Centre is start point of the Family Cycle Trail, which is what I meant by the centre catering for families,

    :? Eh?

The Forest Of Dean Cycling Assosiation trail was built by mountain bikers for mountain bikers who wanted something a little more challenging than the family trails.

We are both thinking of different trails. :D

I'm talking about the Cycle Centre as a whole,

when I go there I see all types of riders from downhillers, xc riders, leisure riders to mums and dads with toddlers, they are all catered for with downhill runs, the red route and the family trail.

Its not a hardcore centre like other centres.

The whole FOD as an attraction caters for all types of activities and users.

Local FOD bikers were building technical trails over 15 years ago, the FODCA route is just a legitimate one.

    Hi Shanta,
There's some fantastic riding in the Forest of Dean, if you can find it. Quite a nice selection of trails listed here; http://www.fountaininnandlodge.co.uk/biking_mallards_pike_loop_one.html, but there's a shed load of other really good rides too.[/url]

i rode the red route the other day and it is very rooty. it was a wet day so the route was a top challenge. it is short but a great opportunity for time trials etc.
