Hi all
I have been looking at various £1,0000 ish bikes, and choosing which one to buy is giving me a severe headache.
I was going to get a Ribble Sportive Carbon with Campag Centaur, but when I asked Ribble if there was a max weight limit on the frame they replied "although the manufacturer does not have a max weight limit, we would not reccomend it for someone of 105kg.
Anyway...... I think I am going to stay away from carbon frames for now and go for an aluminium one instead. I have 3 bikes in mind, they are as follows:
Trek 1.7 (Shimano 105 groupset)
Trek 1.9 (Shimano Ultegra groupset)
Bianchi Via Nirone Alu Carbon (Campag Veloce)
Any views on thes bikes? Trek or Bianchi?
What would be the difference between a double compact and a triple chainset? Which is best?
Cheers
Richard

Trek 1.9 with a compact. All the gears you need in this country.
Looks good, good kit, good warranty, good dealer support.0 -
i'd prefer the Bianchi - mostly because it comes with campag - I'd consider the trek too - but the work would be in removing the shimano stuff and trying to get enough cash on Ebay for it to go for the centaur groupset on the trek (remember you would need to change the wheels too) - probably the Bianchi would be easier in this respect!0

What a coincedence as I am in exactly the same boat. Had the 1.9 bought but shop screwed up and I'm back to thinking again. Have another supplier for the Trek but now considering a Focus Cayo 105 but as I can't get my hands on 1 I'm a bit dubious.
Take a look at the following to give you an idea of what was recommended to me,

As posted in weepiglet's thread, don't know if it's the right size but this is a bargain and should stand up to 105kg fine...

I have the Trek 1.7 08 model and is great bike. Also i have popped 2 of the spokes on the wheels, might be better off getting a dif set to the stock ones . Or if you go for the 1.9 you get dif wheels anyway.0

Thsat Madone is quite a bit over budget. Personally i would go for the Bianchi because they look stunning and the groupset is not bad, it's all personal preference though. I'm surer you'll be happy with whatever you choosewinter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

It's only 100 quid more than the 1.9...0

I am also getting my bike through the c2w scheme.
I am after a 56cm frame, so that 4.7 is out for me (54cm only).
I had found another shop called Pedalon, they had the 2008 4.7 Madone in my size, but said they would need to add £100 admin charge to the £1299 as its a sale bike, then added not all companys allow you to pay more than the £1000 (they checked and mine is one of them).
Other stores dont seem to have a problem with taking the extra on top of the £1000 voucher.
I had no idea how difficult it was going to be trying to choose a bike.0 -
I can't go for a Focus Cayo on my cycle scheme (you have to use Wiggle's own scheme), I have a lot of LBS to choose from, hence my choices.0

Nope, it's up to you now!
Just have to make a decision and go with it...
Whatever you buy it will be fine.0
