the number of lorries on the road in London is set to increase :(

sadly (read that link) an alternative scheme looks to have been squashed :(

No idea if highlighting this to politicians will help... screw it, letter to Boris time.

Dreadful news. It's perturbing that such a high percentage of these London fatalities are women.

    Sickening, yet again.

Just this morning it was approaching this cycle lane to cross the two lanes of traffic and head where the silver MPV is going.

A cement mixer coming in the other direction slowed and turned left from the lane where the motorbike is, and while it was difficult to see from my angle, I'm almost sure he didn't indicate. Any cyclist having the misfortune to be in the left hand lane could've very easily been killed.

While I still think a lot of cyclists should be more aware of the danger posed by large vehicles, this was a shockingly dangerous bit of driving.

    Cement mixers and skip lorries.

Not saying this is what happened here, but my observation is that they are primarily driven like rally cars.

That's just so sad, and I'm sure that we're all devasted at this news. I know there's nothing helpful that can be said at a time like this but I do hope she's at peace.

2 in 2 days. WTF? It makes me feel sick.

I'm sure someone (a HGV driver) posted that some of these tipper lorries are payed per load and this is one of the reasons they drive like idiots.

Nobody knows what actually happened in the lead up to either accident and we shouldn't be jumping to conclusions at this stage. However the lorries were being driven, both of those guys have got to deal with the consequences as well. Lets just think about these poor girls and their families - the inquests will come later.

I feel sick. I am so sorry for this riders family.

A few years ago it nearly happended to me, right on that spot. I'm experienced, have been riding in London all my life. The junction before this has a bus lane on the left of two lanes of traffic. As you head off the lights and head left onto Newington Causeway it is all too easy to get trapped on the inside of traffic because the bus lane doesn't go round the bend, but starts again a few metres on. It encourages traffic to pin you. There is nowhere to escape on the inside because of a railing protecting a pedrestrian subway. I knew there was a lorry beside me at the lights, but I balance and got away quickly. As I approached the bend, the lorry just came in on top of me, and just kept coming. I had no escape and just got as far onto the railing as possible. He just drove on oblivious. Even a passing pedrestiran realised just how close it was and asked if I was ok. I was thoroughly shaken (I'm shaking as I type this) becasue I knew a foot more and I was another statistic.

I really wish I had done something, I feel so guilty. Is there anything that could have been done?

I nearly got taken out by a bus coming off E&C roundabout outside the tube station. Waited for light to go green, first bike headed off, I was about to follow when a bus came tearing round the corner it full tilt. It MUST have gone through a red light. I had to slam brakes on, rear wheel came a good foot off the ground and the bus flew by about 6 inches in front of my front wheel. Seriously scary place to cycle (I've been driven through the back of there as well in the other direction), I drove my brother and his wife through there once and they couldn't believe people cycled it (saying that, its actually scarier in a car than on a bike>>>)

About time we got some national campaign for cyclists aimed at drivers.

Yet more tragic probably avoidable deaths.
We really do need to educate all road users of each others requirements.

cyclists need to understand that HGV'S particularly articulated vehicles or bendy buses have blind spots.

The drivers of the above need to be aware that cyclists may find themselves( due to circumstances ) incorrectley positioned on the left hand side of them within their blind spots.

Road design policy particulary with regard to cycle lanes filtering into main lanes or approaching traffic light controlled junctions needs to ensure that a vulnerable road user is not left playing a guessing game between, can I make that gap before the HGV turns left into my path.

My utmost sympathy to those involved in the events of recent days.

    Ride safe, ride on.
Volition & freedom is within the remit of a democratic society.

Not everybody agrees with your point of view though.
