It is a year since I first had my Garmin 705, and I thought it would be a good idea to add up some of the figures saved. How sad am I?

So here goes.

Total Miles : 2 899.16 miles

Total Time: 223:07:47hrs

Total Calories : 237 605 (used not eaten)

Total Ascent in feet : 148 582ft.

Mount Everest is 29 035ft. I have climbed Everest over 5 times! OOOOOHHHHH on a compact as well.

Total Descent in feet : 149 387ft

The Mariana Trench is 35 798 at its deepest. I have descended the Mariana Trench over 4 times and never got my feet wet.

I really must do some work, as I am quite bored.

    Are you now living in an 800 foot hole, or is there a sane explanation to the difference between distances climbed and descended? :wink:

    Do you play Numberwang at home and risk being prosecuted? Or do you get the boardgame? :lol:

    Perhaps the harsh Everest weather stopped the computer working for a few hundred metres? :)

  • For some reason, ascent and descent numbers are never equal, and i think i know why. Garmin 705 altimeters are based, as most oare, on barometric readings. And during the day, barometric pressure can differ, especially on longer rides. Hence the difference.Or my house is subsiding.

  • Well done Howie.

    It all sounds pretty impressive to me. Tamworth being an 800ft hole I'm not too sure about. I'm sure you've heard worse :wink:

    I'm sure if I relied on the car's computer and added up all the miles driving to work then took away all the miles driving home I'd be living somewhere else by now.

    Firstly, apologies for unintentionally hijacking the thread and turning it into a Mitchell & Webb tribute act!
    Secondly, Numberwang fans might like to have a look at these;

    As a massive Kaiser Chiefs fan, I really ought to get round to buying one of these before too long, mind you;

  • Could be Howie. Maybe you had a lift to the start/ from the finish for some of your rides? That could explain it.

    Why mention calories used, not eaten? Did you have a wee bonfire using energy bars to keep warm in winter? Just curious :wink:
