I work in a bike shop that doesn't have the Bike Fit thingy.... we use experience and knowledge, plus a turbo trainer whenever possible to ensure people are comfortable on a bike and that the set up is correct for them. Apart from one guy who moans constantly about everything (and has been barred for returning EVERYTHING just before warrantee runs out) we have never had a customer come back and complain that the bike is uncomfortable in my near 2 years there. OK, we don't sell many high end road bikes, but the ones we do always result in repeat custom. There is a lot to be said for old fashioned knowledgeable staff
  • I get numb left toes and bad neck and shoulder ache. The toes are cured and hopefully in the not to distant future the neck will be.

I'm having the same exact problems, left toes going numb and after about an hour in the saddle I get burning pain in my right shoulder blade when stretching my neck. You'll have to let me know if they sort yours out.

Decided to go for the bike fit option! booked in for the 23rd, spoke to the guys who inspired me with confidence compared to the other shops so went for it!
They did say they only use the bikefit.com as a starting guide then take it from there!
Thanks for all the opinions i will let you know how it goes!

For the purpose of letting anyone else wondering about a bike fitting know. I had mine and have bought my first road bike, and i highly recommend one if buying a bike.

My legs are long and my body is short, my left arm is a cm longer than my right and my feet are massive for my height, oo err

Seriously though went out on the bike today (Giant Defy advanced 3) and its so comfortable, i've ridden a xc bike for last two years and for last two years i've had it all wrong, am now going to fiddle with my mtb till i get it as comfortable!
Had no knee pain at all, something that has always been a problem and also understand this whole geometry thing!

I had a bio racer done years ago - best thing I ever did - its only a starting point of course- but roughly I know the bike size I want - and work from there.

of course it doesn't take into account how flexible you are & stuff like that - but the knowledge gained over the years enables you to spot a 'rogue' dealer - or someone trying to push something. Dunno if its me - but I always find the highly rated shops a let down - for example a shop often recommended on here - is one that wants to charge me 10% £100 - to use a cyclescheme voucher. !!!!!!
