i have just been over to Berlin for a long weekend. I was really amazed to see how may people were commuting. Plenty of people just trundling round the city in all different types of bikes, mainly without helmets. There were plenty of bike paths and bike parking.

I live in Edinburgh and I was a bit jealous, I wish more people here used there bikes to get around.

The thing I wonder/worry about in this kind of city is whether the trundlers (who have every right to be on the road) get in the way of the faster cyclists, making it even harder to city commute at a decent pace?

Certainly the case somewhere like Copenhagen, was out there a while ago and witnessed a lot of bike congestion. According to the taxi driver (not a great source I grant you) cyclists aren't allowed in traffic, as the cycle lanes are usually the width of one car lane. If that's the case I wouldn't want to be cycle commuting there.
