will a sram pc991, 9 speed chain, work with a sram pc 850 8 speed cassette

    No, but there are plenty of cheap 8spd chains at Ribble while the 15% Spring sale is on

    internal widths of 8,9 and 10 speed chains are all the same, only then outer width is different. Hence a 9spd chain will work on a 8spd cassette no problem. I've run this on my commuter for ages.

    In fact, many weenies have been running 10spd chains on 9spd bikes for a while.

    The hollowpin version is good, but more money than the standard 991.
