I'm thinking of getting some bib shorts. I have noticed that there are some pads which seem to be denser than others (the cheaper ones), not necessarily thicker but denser. Does anyone know at which price point do the denser pads appear, or can anyone reccomend the type I am trying to describe?

Thanks

James

Denser may or may not mean comfy and cushier. Shorts are sort of like saddles. You need to try a few and see how it goes. While paying a bunch of money for things
doesn't necessarily mean great stuff it can be an indicator of quality. I know people who ride cheapie shorts with no problems and others who wouldn't think of climbing into the saddle without top line stuff. FWIW I find that Pearl Izumi makes as good a short as anyone. I usually buy pretty much top of the line(although even PI is getting up there in price) or one step down. Have yet to be disappointed. Have tried other top line models and brands and haven't noticed any real difference. If you're having comfort issues
try a pair of at least mid price range shorts and see how it goes.

  • Thanks Dennis, all useful info for making up my mind, I think I might do just that, go mid range and see how it goes.
