Hi there,
I have a Specialized Allez Sport Double 2007. Spec here:

I simply want to know that If a purchased an Ultegra rear Derailleur (6600-SS)

om/publish/content/global_cycle/en/nl/index/products/road/ultegra/product.-code-RD-6600-SS.-type-rd_road.html)
Would I simply be able to swap this with my 9spd Tiagra one?
Thanks for any help

it would probably work - but wouldn't be ideal as the cage would be rather narrow - 10speed chains are narrower than 9speed.
actually - thinking about it - it might be too narrow to accommodate a 9sp chain.
it wouldn't really achieve much to be honest - why do you want to change it?0 -
Ok, I thought the thing was 9 and 10 speed compatible??
To be honest, I find the Tiagra just fine, this is just a bling type purchase as I don't know what to upgrade on the bike now....Seems to have become an obsession!!Planet X Pro Carbon SL

I know about the upgrading obsession !
So what have you upgraded so far - perhaps we can think of other stuff for you to upgrade!0 -
Ahh thanks!
Well, I don't have limitless funds or I would not have the bike I do, although I love it ...but so far:
Got some new wheels (Easton EA50 SL)
Specialized Toupe seat.
New Carbon Seatpost.
Spent money off the bike with a Garmin Edge 705, Giro Ionos etc...
Thought the gearing was the next move, but like you say I have not really read anything saying there will be any real improvementsPlanet X Pro Carbon SL

Hmm - ok - saddle, post and wheels are good choices.
what tyres did you put on the new wheels - decent ones or the originals from your old wheels - if you put the Original ones on then definately upgrade your tyres - you can save a lot of weight by opting for a pair of top-end tyres like pro race3's or vittoria open corsa evos
is your groupset full tiagra? - or does it have cheapo non-branded brake calipers? - replace those - save weight, gain better brakes.
Hmm - just read the spec from your link - it already has full tiagra group - inc chainset with HT2 BB - which would have been my next guess!
looks like you might be struggling here - what about your bars stem? - happy with the standard ones? - you won't save much weight here but it is an opportunity to make the bike fit you better and / or be more comfortable over a long distance.
oh - one last thing - what pedals do you have?0 -
Ok, well I was looking at some Ultremos, mostly coz they were top end and had some nice big logos on them, but going to wait until May when I have some rides coming up as I live out of the city where the roads get a little crappy this time of year and split tyres. Have some basic schwalbe puncture resistant jobs atm... Pro Rnace 3 was definately a contender though, not seen much on vittorias.....
Yea, it is full Tiagra, which was why I have been camped on ebay recently looking for Ultegra gear...
I have some profile aero bars on the front, which is nice for the longer rides, but not thought about the actual bars...to be honest though they feel fine....
I have the basic shimano pedals that most people start with...SPD-SL....bottom ones i think....Planet X Pro Carbon SL

Here's Shimanos' own compatability chart and it says yes to Tiagra 9sp-Ultegra 10sp.

Ahh OK... So is the answer that says yes on page 3?
Do you follow the lines through or something?Planet X Pro Carbon SL

What about bottle cages ?... or some new white bar tape... always looks good in the spring0
-
I have white bar tape although a bit grubby, but I am saving my other box for the day before my London to Paris ride in June (It does look cool though, you are right).
Awaiting delivery of some Tacx Tao's (cages), but I like my white specialized cages I have on at the moment.Planet X Pro Carbon SL

Why not find a 9-speed Ultegra rear mech instead of a ten-speed? The 6500 instead of 6600?0
-
My Allez has an Ultegra 10 spd 6600 rear derailleur mixed with Ultegra 6500 9 speed chainset / cassette / front mech and it works perfectly.
Shifting on the front isn't that smooth, but that's because I dismantled the left Tiagra lever to clean it and must have done some damage during the 3 hours it took me to get the spring back in place. However, it's not bad enough for me to justify upgrading the shifters as the Allez is no longer my best bike. I occasionally check Ebay to see if there are any cheap 9spd Ultegra shifters for sale.0 -
I got a Ultegra 6600 brand new for £43.00 free delivery, which seems to be cheaper than buying from Ebay for some reason!!
I know this is just bling factor, but it stops me buying for a little while...
Shame I can't upgrade all the bits to 10 speed gradually!!Planet X Pro Carbon SL

I've checked that compatibility chart but it seems to say nothing about front-rear compatibility. I have a complete Tiagra drivetrain (triple) including chainset and need a new front mech because I've swapped to a different frame. Can I use a 105 or Ultegra front mech (10 speed) on my 9 speed Tiagra setup, or must I buy a Tiagra front mech?08 Commencal Meta 5.5.2
