Turbotrainer help!

Just bought a Tacx Speedmatic turbotrainer to aid the recovery of my leg. Managed to get it set up this evening in order to try it.

Now, the back wheel on the bike does not sit centrally on the roller, and is off-centre to the right side. I reallise that I currently have knobblies on (waiting for a slick to arrive), but surely it should sit centrally? I've also tried another bike with narrower tyres (still knobblies though), and although it is better, the second bike still does not sit centrally.

Also, it has 10 resistance settings, yet when I spin the fly-wheel with my hand, and run through the 1-10 settings, I can't feel any difference. I know I'm incredibly stupid at times, but should I not be able to feel a difference?

    Mine doesn't sit centrally either.

As for the resistance, I would expect you will notice the difference when you've got the slick on. I can't imagine there would be much traction with an off roading tyre fitted.

Does it matter if its not in the middle?

    Hi, Milkie.

    Thanks for your help.

I know that there will be a noticeable difference when I put the slick on, but it does seem to sit very far to the right.

If I don't have the bike on the trainer, and just spin the fly-wheel with my hand, the resistance doesn't feel to differ no matter what number I select (from 1-10)...if that makes sense?

Have you pushed the resistance thingy in so that it is rubbing against your back tyre? as that is what it is supposed to do. Also it might be worth getting a trainer tyre as it wears your tyres down very very quickly

G'day Johnny, been a while, sorry to hear about the knee but great to hear about the twins. My kids love playing with my bike so much I had to lock it in the shed so hopefully yours can keep their fingers out of the spokes while your on the trainer

Strangely I did the same with mine when I first got it, you cant really feel much differance by hand, I can only assume it needs to be spinning much faster to feel the effects.

Doesn't sit centrally either with my road bike, on the turbo I've got I could fiddle about and screw the opposite side in a bit and then readjust the quick release side, I can't be bothered though as it works fine off centre.

Thanks for all the help and advice.

I've got a cheap slick to be going on with and will try that tomorrow. I was on the exercise bike at the physio yesterday, and it felt so easy...it was difficult to not get carried away.

    Hi, Stu...how are you?

How's the bike? I know what you mean about kids' fascination with spinning wheels, my four year old son is the same.
