Yeah mate it's coz inflation is 0% innit
(actually it's to do with the relative weakness of the pound caused by our poorly economy and low interest rates. This is making everything we import more expensive, and as that is most of what we buy, expect your shopping to get more and more costly. On the upside if you do happen to work for a company that exports, your produce is cheaper on the world market, which is good)0 -
I was discussing this the other day, what caught my attention was the price that someone was selling some STI's for in the sales section. I thought that the price seemed a little steep until I checked out the new price, I bought some for £130 last September the price now from the same place as I bought mine is a HUGE £267 :shock:0

Weakness of the £. I think that's only a tiny contribution. I think it is rip off Britain. Last year I bought lots of 9spd kit to stock up. The same components have now more than doubled in the space of 8months £42 now £100-115. IMHO it has nothing to do with strength of the pound as the items I’m looking at are old spec so are more than likely to be existing old stock. It’s simple supply and demand. If you look at the cost of a typical new decent fully integrated chainset then you will be spending silly money £350+. It is this supposedly new and better technology that is meaning that prices on everything else are going up to justify it. Unfortunately I don’t think component prices will ever return to pre-credit crunch levels. I mean for ffs who buys this stuff? A chainset for £350-400 or spends £5k+ on a road bike unless you are a pro rider in which case you get given your bikes unless of course you are SrAlan ? :roll:Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.
Think how stupid the average person is.......
half of them are even more stupid than you first thought.0 -
It has virtually everything to do with the 25-30% devaluation in the pound plus the huge raw material price increases we suffered in the middle of last year are still in the system. Imported bike parts which includes just about everything, have gone up by an average of 50% since this time last year. It's got nothing to do with rip of Britain!
What worries me more is that poiticians were surprised that last months inflation figures were slightly up. It just goes to show they have no idea how much of what we buy is imported.
Moving forward, raw material prices have come down so this should get passed on by late Summer and if conditions get any worse then there will probably be more competition in the high street, however, don't expect the pound to rally for some time yet. So we are all going to have to get used to higher prices for a while. On the bright side a lot of product is still about the same price as it was 15 years ago.0
