Chasing sheep!

Was going up the Cat & Fiddle today and some sheep came out from the left and started running up the opposite side of the road. Lucky there were no cars coming!

Anyway, they started running along as I think I scared them. They were going the same speed as me and it was almost 2 miles before they jumped off the road and into some side gate into a field!

I was going to stop at one point, as they looked really freaked out and were sprinting (), but i'd not stopped since Knutsford and was getting into my rhythm.

Crazy!

I got stampeded off the road by a posse of charging sheep going over from Rivington to Belmont a few years ago - sheep running in front of a car coming down - me going up - resulted in me on the verge clipped out feeling a bit sheepish

Wondered how long this would be brought up.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I had a similar incident yesterday with a duck in the middle of the road. Should't these animals have a basic understanding of the highway code?

    Sheep? Pah!

Out in the real country you'll get wild pigs and cattle.

Had a few exciting moments this morning, first i had about half a dozen ponies (they live wild on Gower) come running down a lane towards me which was a bit scary  Also i nearly killed a terrified looking pheasant who was running down the road away from his mate - who looked like he had just been flattened by a car a few moments earlier.

Too fast for you eh? Sounds like a good reason for a, lighter, faster, new bike!

No, not his mate in that sense. It was his flat mate.:lol::lol::lol:

Shouldn't someone have said something about plucking pheasants by now? But I won't mention it if no one else does

bhima - do you carry your camera on a string round your neck or something..?? You seem to have a photo for every occasion....
  • Deer, five of them, eyes like Gerrard Houllier on the wrong end of a rout. They broke from the copse over shoulder right, cleared the hedge and ditch and skittered about over the loose, gravelly tarmac, before making for a gap in the thicket and the fields beyond. I was descending, wind behind at 30+. Brakes not an option. Swerving not an option. No option but straight through the middle. I made it (up), with a 4-1 split. Were you watching Bambi? Your boys took one hell of a Thumper.

I might give group riding a go after all.
If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don't have to worry about answers.

    Deer, five of them,.........
Nippy little buggers aren't they? - Nippy but stupid! I was driving along a fast bit of duel carriageway in Austria once when I suddenly saw this blur of an animal about the size of a large dog bounding along to my right on the other side of the metal barrier. Suddenly it was ahead of me (just) when it turned through 90 degrees and jumped straight in front of me. It bounded off the road, catching & breaking the number plate with its hoof as it went. It then zoomed over our carriageway, crossed the other one and disappeared into the woods on the other side of the road. I had no idea if it was hurt and couldn't really do anything but carry on.

Don't you think someone should explain to them that roads are dangerous - even for those of us who kind of know what we are doing on them?

It's just my phone camera, which is in my back pocket. These were taken after 1.5miles of chasing the things so I thought it deserved some kind of photo because it was so bizzare.

LOL! I remember when descending Blackstone Edge near Manchester, if a sheep ran into the road, they wouldn't run away to the side of you, they would try and outrun you. Possibly the dumbest animals on earth (next to ManU fans)...

I only see Deer and Coyotes on my commute and they are very good at running away.

If the sheep were next to ManU fans how would you know the difference?

Yes, as it happens, I am from Wales.

    Sheep = leisure centre.
I got chased by a rotweiler the other day. They seem to like the taste of Specialized shoes. Maybe it's the taste of aisian cuisine :)
