I'm considering entering the south downs way randonnee as it looks like a real challenge and it's not a million miles away from me, so was planning to drive down tomorrow and recon the downs as i've heard they are hard work, but want to see for myself as we all have different gradings.

so wanted to know if anyone knew where i'd be able to park up whilst it hit the downs?

the route i was planning to do was from washington (sussex) to the devils dyke and then back, so if someone knows if there is a place to part close to the trail there it would be ideal if you could share.

any other places along the route would be appreciated too.

thanks!!!!

  • why not park in Washington where teh diversion to avoid crossing the A24 goes, or in the car park just south of there, where the original route crosses the A24. Plenty of pl;aces to aprk along the way otherwise. inclusing Devils Dyke.

that's actually where i ended up parking, i got up early sunday, put washington in the tom tom, which took me to a pub who pointed me in the direction of the car park, which was ideal as it was literally take the bike of the rack and straight on the downs.

would have been nice, if following the actually trail was as easy as the signage along the route is shocking fortunately my trusty garmin and landranger kept me on the right track (most of the time)
